Veteran's Day

Pay your respects and celebrate their courage at the Museum

On November 11th, 2024, the Columbia Gorge Museum hosted a moving Veteran’s Day Ceremony, drawing over 90 guests in a powerful show of community support and remembrance.

We are deeply grateful to the Carson Veteran’s Legion, the Skamania County Chamber, and surrounding veterans organizations for their invaluable help in promoting and supporting the event.

Their efforts ensured that this day of honor was well-attended, creating a meaningful space for reflection and gratitude.

The ceremony marked a poignant tribute to the end of hostilities in World War I, a moment of historical significance that brought the community together in a shared act of remembrance.

At exactly 11:11 AM, the museum’s bells rang 11 times in a solemn gesture, joining the national “Bells of Peace” initiative. This symbolic act provided a moment of quiet reflection, allowing all present to pause and honor the sacrifices made by military veterans throughout history.

Following the bell ringing, attendees were treated to a heartfelt performance by the Mid-Columbia Community Choir, under the direction of Dr. David Kelly.

The choir’s renditions of World War I-era songs evoked the spirit of resilience and unity that defined that time, stirring deep emotions among those gathered.

The ceremony also included the dedication of a “Never Forget Garden,” which serves as a lasting tribute to those who have served in the military.

This peaceful garden, unveiled in a moving ceremony by the Honor Guard of the Society of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, will continue to serve as a place of reflection and remembrance for years to come.

We are excited to continue this tradition of paying respects to our veterans each year, ensuring that their service and sacrifices are never forgotten.
